5 Useful Human Resources Tips for Small Business Owners in 2020
Ms. Danielle Duncan, Elite Senior District Manager at ADP, joined our weekly business luncheon on December 11, 2019, as our guest and presenter. She shared some valuable information around the solutions ADP offers that can be useful for any business owner. Here's a summary:
ADP is more than just payroll but a Human Capital Management company. ADP's motto is Always Designing for People, so this means they don't have a one size fits all solution. Since ADP pays 1 in 4 Americans, they can benchmark your company with the data they have to provide you a strategic approach to doing business.
- Total Source PEO: Businesses with 10+ employees can gain access to LARGE group health benefits, lower workers comp rates, HR support, and shared company liability.
- HR Outsourcing: ADP provides a SHERM certified HR professional that will go to your business to do an internal audit, provide you compliance updates and complete HR tasks ask they arise
- AB 5: California has made it even harder or impossible to use 1099 contractors without being penalized. In 2020, the ABC law has been put into effect.
- SB 1343 Sexual Harassment: California has made MANDATORY for businesses with 5+ employees to provide sexual harassment training to their employees. (ADP offers this training!)
- CalSavers: California passed a law that businesses with 5+ employees will need to offer a retirement plan by 2022. If not set up by then, you will be auto-enrolled into CalSavers. CalSavers is a state 401k plan that is POSTED taxed, and you have no flexibility on where your money goes. all administration work is fallen on the owner (payroll deductions, fiduciary liability, 5500 filings, etc.)
